Refinery, Chemical Plant, and Port-Logistics Roofing for the Largest Petrochem Cluster in North America
The 25-mile stretch from the Turning Basin to Morgan’s Point is the densest petrochemical concentration on the continent. ExxonMobil’s Baytown Complex runs 584,000 barrels per day and has been doing so since 1919. Shell Deer Park, LyondellBasell Channelview, Dow’s nearby Freeport operations, INEOS Battleground, and the Bayport Industrial District together account for roughly a third of US base-chemical output. See our industrial and petrochemical roofing → Add the public terminals (Cargill, Vopak, Kinder Morgan), the private docks, and the federal scrutiny that follows every line item of operations near the Ship Channel. The roofing market here is defined by demanding scopes, hardened insurance underwriting, and documentation cycles other markets do not face.
Our 2024 SIKA Project of the Year covered the Samsung Austin Semiconductor Plant — fab-tolerance industrial roofing on a 1.3M sq ft mission-critical facility. The specifications transfer directly. Thermal cycling, chemical vapor exposure, non-standard roof geometries, continuous-uptime constraints, and the documented manufacturer-warranted assemblies that procurement teams want are not new variables for our crews. We bring ISNetworld pre-qualification, plus the project-specific DFARS, NFPA 241 hot-work, and turnaround-window scheduling that refinery and chemical-plant maintenance teams require.
Our La Porte office on Highway 146 handles the procurement relationship, the project sequencing, and the documented system specifications that matter when you are a refinery roof maintenance manager at ExxonMobil, a turnaround coordinator at Shell Deer Park, a Bayport tenant facility VP, or a port-logistics property owner along the Channel.
Commercial Roofing Across La Porte, Deer Park, Pasadena, Baytown, and Bayport
We serve commercial property owners and facility managers across La Porte, Deer Park, Pasadena, Baytown, Channelview, Galena Park, Morgan’s Point, Seabrook, Shoreacres, and the broader Harris County industrial corridor. Our La Porte office at 903 TX-146 handles client coordination, project scheduling, and the documentation cycle Ship Channel procurement requires.
Our service scope covers the full commercial property spectrum. Office buildings and corporate campuses, retail centers and shopping plazas, hospitals and medical office buildings, K–12 schools and university buildings, government and municipal facilities, warehouses and distribution centers, multi-family and mixed-use commercial, data centers, manufacturing and industrial properties, and convention and arena-scale venues are all on our project list. Refineries, chemical plants, and port-logistics terminals are the high-visibility segment of the Ship Channel market — but the corridor also runs hospitals (HCA Bayshore, San Jacinto Memorial, ExxonMobil’s Baytown Hospital adjacency), retail centers serving 250,000+ Ship Channel-area employees, school districts (Deer Park ISD, Pasadena ISD, La Porte ISD, Goose Creek CISD), and the federal facilities clustered around NASA Johnson and the Coast Guard’s Galveston Bay station.
Ship Channel roofing climate is harder than the rest of Texas. Sustained subtropical humidity. Salt-air corrosion. 50+ inches of annual rainfall. Hurricane wind loads (Harvey 2017 dropped 60 inches in 4 days, Beryl 2024 took out the regional grid for two weeks), and the chemical vapor exposure that surrounds every refinery and chemical-plant property line. Insurance underwriters have hardened re-inspection and documentation requirements after every claim cycle since Hurricane Ike. Federal and state environmental review applies to any work touching a Ship Channel facility within EPA jurisdiction, which is most of them.
We specify and install systems that meet code, document every installation for insurance and warranty purposes, and design phased project plans that respect occupied-facility and turnaround-window constraints. SPF roofing earns its place in petrochem applications because the seamless monolithic membrane outperforms seam-based systems under thermal cycling and chemical vapor exposure. Single-ply TPO, PVC, and EPDM systems remain the right call for many new-construction commercial roofs across the corridor’s office, retail, and education property types. Industrial coatings extend service life 10–20 years on existing substrates, with strong lifecycle economics for refinery and terminal portfolios where capex cycles constrain full replacement. Waterproofing handles the foundation, deck, and below-grade work that the corridor’s hospitals, mixed-use developments, and parking structures require.
We have done this work since 1987. Two consecutive years of national industry awards. The Louisiana Superdome restoration. Fortune 500 client portfolios. A local La Porte office with named project history along the Channel.
Full-Service Commercial Roofing — La Porte and the Ship Channel
SPF Roofing
Seamless spray polyurethane foam — built for refineries, chemical plants, and irregular industrial roof geometries across the Ship Channel. Closed-cell construction outperforms seam-based systems under thermal cycling and chemical vapor exposure, the two failure modes that drive most petrochem roof leaks.
Industrial Coatings
Chemical-resistant elastomeric and silicone coatings extend service life 10–20 years on existing refinery, terminal, and chemical-plant substrates. Recoating cost runs 50–66% of original installed price, which is why turnaround-cycle planners specify recoats over replacements when capex is constrained.
Single-Ply Roofing
TPO, PVC, and EPDM systems for new-construction commercial roofs across office, retail, healthcare, and educational property types in the broader Harris County market.
Commercial Waterproofing
Below-grade and above-grade waterproofing for foundations, decks, parking structures, and full building envelopes on hospitals, government buildings, and mixed-use developments.
Metal Roofing
Standing seam, R-panel, and metal wall systems for commercial and institutional structures across the corridor.
Commercial Roof Repair
Targeted infrared moisture scanning and documented repair to minimize disruption to active facilities.
Commercial Roof Installation
New-construction commercial roofing with manufacturer-warranted specifications and documented commissioning.
Commercial Roof Replacement
Full tear-off and replacement when overlay is not code- or warranty-eligible.
Award-Grade Roofing for Mission-Critical Texas and Gulf Coast Facilities
The 2024 SIKA Project of the Year covered the Samsung Austin Semiconductor Plant — 1.3M sq ft of fab-tolerance industrial roofing. The 2025 SPFA National Industry Excellence Award covered an SPF re-roof larger than 40,000 square feet at the New Orleans Convention Center. The Louisiana Superdome roof restoration after Hurricane Katrina is on our project list. Each of these projects demanded the procurement-grade documentation, phased operational sequencing, and named manufacturer specifications that Ship Channel refinery, chemical-plant, and terminal clients also require.

La Porte Commercial Roofing — Buyer Questions
What roofing contractor handles refineries and chemical plants on the Houston Ship Channel?
We do, and we have since 1987. Brazos Urethane has worked petrochem, chemical, and industrial roofing across the Texas Gulf Coast for 38 years. Our 2024 SIKA Project of the Year covered the Samsung Austin Semiconductor Plant: 1.3M sq ft, fab-tolerance industrial roofing on a continuously operating facility. ISNetworld pre-qualified. La Porte office at 903 TX-146 on the Ship Channel.
Can you work during a refinery turnaround window?
Yes. Most of our Ship Channel-area work runs on coordinated turnaround windows or off-shift schedules tied to plant operations. We sequence in phases that respect process-unit isolation, NFPA 241 hot-work permits, gas testing, lockout-tagout coordination with maintenance leads, and the operations-side go/no-go calls. The Samsung Austin Semiconductor project ran on this exact pattern. So did the NOLA Convention Center 40,000+ sq ft re-roof. Coordination is the work.
What roof system handles chemical vapor exposure and salt-air corrosion best?
Spray polyurethane foam with a chemical-resistant elastomeric or silicone topcoat outperforms seam-based systems on Ship Channel exposure profiles. Two reasons. The seamless membrane eliminates the seam failure that causes most leaks under thermal cycling. The closed-cell foam structure resists chemical vapor better than open-cell or seam-based assemblies. PVC single-ply is also a strong fit on new-construction projects where SPF retrofit is not appropriate. Specification details (membrane thickness, attachment, substrate prep) matter as much as the material category.
Are you set up to bid Harris County industrial RFPs and federal facility contracts?
We are. Brazos brings current SPFA, NRCA, ABAA, and RCMA membership, ISNetworld pre-qualification, DFARS-compliant documentation practices for federal scopes, and the manufacturer-warranted spec sheets refinery procurement officers need. We have delivered on Fortune 500 projects across the Gulf Coast. The La Porte office handles bid coordination, site visits, and the documentation cycle Ship Channel procurement requires.
How long does a chemical plant or refinery roof replacement take during operations?
Most occupied-plant roof projects run 4–10 weeks depending on square footage, deck preparation, system specification, turnaround windows, and operations coordination. We sequence in phases — typically by process unit, off-shift staging where required, and continuous coordination with plant maintenance and operations. Samsung Austin was the largest single roof project we have run on this pattern. NOLA Convention Center was the longest. Both shipped on schedule.
